Zero Waste Student is a blog dedicated to outlining simple—yet impactful— changes that will get you on track to living a more sustainable life.
This past year I’ve found myself becoming increasingly more aware of the impact consumerism has had on our environment. We live in a society that values productivity and production above all else. Where people sometimes wait in line for six hours to get the new iPhone.
We begin to develop the expectation that constant innovation and the possession of a large variety of objects will make us happier and lead us to a more fulfilling life. However, this misconception has had devastating consequences. From the Great Pacific Garbage Patch to China's air pollution crisis it is clear that this is not any one country's problem, but a global one.
But how can I, a student, impact a global crisis?
You can start by following this blog and/or doing independent research. Knowledge is truly your greatest tool.
Be critical about what you read and remember to fact check. No one person has all the answers. There are a lot of "green" products on the market that often aren't as environmentally friendly as they would have you believe.
What can I expect from this blog?
- DIY projects that will help cut waste
- Recipes for making homemade products
- Recommendations on alternative eco-friendly products
- Tips and tricks to smooth the transition
